Fillings

A filling is used to restore a tooth that is suffering from decay, back to its regular shape and normal function. The procedure for filling a cavity consists of Dr. Razavi removing the decayed material from the tooth, cleaning the tooth, and then filling the cavity with a composite resin. The purpose of the filling is to keep the tooth from becoming further damaged due to decay. At Razavi Dental, we utilize using only tooth-colored, mercury-free dental fillings as a part of our restorative dental services.

Tooth colored fillings have many advantages, such as :

  1. Aesthetics – the shade/color of the material can be closely matched to the color of existing teeth; is particularly well suited for use in front teeth or visible parts of teeth.
  2. Bonding to tooth structure – composite fillings chemically bond to tooth structure, providing further support to the tooth.
  3. Versatility in uses – in addition to use as a filling material for decay, composite fillings can also be used to repair chipped, broken or worn teeth. ( For more information on this, please see ‘Bonding’)
  4. Tooth-sparing preparation – sometimes less tooth structure needs to be removed compared with amalgams (silver/mercury fillings) when removing decay and preparing for the filling.
